How God answers prayers

We often mix-up the definitions in the word “answer”. We pray to Heavenly Father asking for an “answer” without being clear on the difference between a response and a solution. For this reason, there are people who say God does not “answer” every prayer.

The word “answer” can refer to someone answering or responding when called. The word can also refer to the solution to a problem.

I propose:
~ God always “answers” prayers in that he gives a response.
~ And, God doesn’t always “answer” prayers in that he doesn’t always give the solution.

These responses vary just like the ones we receive from loving earthly parents.

  • A word of advice
  • Guidance or direct answer of what to do next
  • Guidance or direct answer to wait and see
  • A knowing smile with no verbal expression
  • Silence while they take in your words
  • Silence while deciding on the best way (or time) to respond
  • A hug or other physical sign of comfort
  • An open space for us to figure out our own “adventure”
  • An immediate gift providing a solution
  • The promise of a gift yet to come providing a solution
  • The assurance that something different is in the works
  • A space to hear “what do you think?”

I am sure I am forgetting some.

Anyhow, I share because we sometimes experience anxiety or doubt when a deadline approaches and the solution has not appeared. It may or may not appear. It may set up the stage to reveal what you can do and how you can respond under a new circumstance.

We don’t become like God by staying the same people with the same thoughts and the same solutions. We don’t become like God by depending on every solution to be dispensed in one easy method. We become like God by progressing upward in our responses in thoughts and to experiences. We become like God by learning to think like Him.
